Ordinary, yet remarkable

Amma would certainly not have stood out in a crowd.

She was not the gentlest person I had known.

She was not charming.

She could be wilful and obstinate.

She had a sharp tongue and made sure she put it to good use.

She wasn’t above family politics.

So well, amma wasn’t the saintly mother we come across in fiction. All the same, I doubt you will come across many like her in real life.

She had a simple and generous heart and mind.

She had enormous will-power and courage that she displayed right up to her death.

She was really fair and honest.

She was incredibly dedicated to people who mattered to her.

She went to the extreme in being active and alive until the very end.

She just did not fear death even though she had been staring at it for a decade.
